Penn State women's coach Portland returns
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania - Penn State women's basketball coach Rene Portland, who had been on medical leave since November 22, will return to the team for its game Thursday against Pittsburgh.
Portland took a leave after a fainting episode on November 14. After undergoing a series of tests, she received clearance from her physicians to return to coaching.
"I have been touched by the outpouring of support I have received from the community during my absence," Portland said. "The team has certainly showed its strength in coming together the way it did, and I am excited to be back with my Lady Lion family again."
The Lady Lions upset No. 2 North Carolina on Sunday, 77-71, and have won three straight games.
